  10.    On the following pages are descriptions of each command recognized by
  11.    the NNTP server and the responses which will be returned by those
  12.    commands.

  14.    Each command is shown in upper case for clarity, although case is
  15.    ignored in the interpretation of commands by the NNTP server.  Any
  16.    parameters are shown in lower case.  A parameter shown in [square
  17.    brackets] is optional.  For example, [GMT] indicates that the
  18.    triglyph GMT may present or omitted.

  20.    Every command described in this section must be implemented by all
  21.    NNTP servers.
  22.  
  23.    There is no prohibition against additional commands being added;
  24.    however, it is recommended that any such unspecified command begin
  25.    with the letter "X" to avoid conflict with later revisions of this
  26.    specification.
  27.  
  28.    Implementors are reminded that such additional commands may not
  29.    redefine specified status response codes.  Using additional
  30.    unspecified responses for standard commands is also prohibited.
